Perfect pallet furniture ideas

When it comes to upcycling, it’s hard to go past pallet furniture. Not only does creating something with an old timber pallet that’s past its commercial use-by date prevent waste, you have a ready-made base that you can use to create beautiful items with the need for too many building skills. Most, not all, but most pallets are made from hardwood timber. There are also plastic, MDF and softwood timber versions, so if you’re buying online, make sure you know what you’re getting. Also, remember that pallets are not a one-use only item, so don’t just help yourself to anything you see stacked outside a factory unit. They’re an expensive investment for business and the owners will not be happy if you steal them. Look online and you should be able to pick up some second-hand ones reasonably cheaply.   [caption id="attachment_5579" align="alignleft" width="690"] Image courtesy of 99 Pallets[/caption]   You could also ask a business that uses a lot of pallets if they’d be prepared to sell you anything they can’t use any more. They may appreciate not having to pay to dispose of them. When it comes to creating furniture with pallets, you’re only limited by your imagination. The most common use is as coffee tables, probably because it can be as simple as screwing some castors to the bottom and placing a sheet of safety glass on top. Simpler still you can unscrew the top planks, then reattach them so they’re butted together add a border in a contrasting timber, give all a sand and a few coats of stain or natural oil. Personally I love tung oil for everything from floors to furniture. They can be used to create outdoor dining tables and seats, as well as coffee tables and outdoor sofas. Use pallets to build a strong, fun cubby house without the need to build a frame or floor. Give your creation a good sand before painting it and the kids will have hours of fun in their own retreat.
