Easy-care rug guide and styling tips

Firstly, let me start by saying this isn't sponsored content – I’m just a HUGE fan of Temple and Webster. They always have a wide range of sale items (like these ones which are currently up to 60 per cent off) and they have great styling advice, which comes in handy when you want to give a room a mini makeover or you're getting ready to put your home on the market. With the winter chill starting to set in, especially at night, I wanted to share their handy tips to buying, placing and maintaining indoor rugs.   [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="690"]denise-braki-allira-bell-dining-room-photography-styling-top-shot-interiors Photography by Denise Braki + Styling by Allira Bell.[/caption]

Dining space

If you're placing a rug under a dining table, it should be wide enough so the chairs are completely on the rug even when guests are sitting at the table. This usually means allowing an extra 60cm each side of the table.   [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="690"]denise-braki-photography-jono-fleming-styling-interiors-living-room-home Photography by Denise Braki + Styling by Jono Fleming.[/caption]

Bedroom

Classic bedroom: for a cohesive look, place a large rug under the bed, remembering that only pattern or colour at the outer part of the rug will be visible Layered bedroom: for a more eclectic bedroom look, use smaller rugs on either side or at the foot of the bed   [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="690"]denise-braki-photography-jono-fleming-styling-living-room-interiors Photography by Denise Braki + Styling by Jono Fleming.[/caption]

Living room

Living large: to make a room feel more spacious than it actually is, choose a large rug that will fit all your living area furniture on top. This is the ideal way to define a space within a large open-plan room Cosy living: if your rug (or your budget) doesn't stretch that far, simply put the front legs of your sofa and chairs on the rug to anchor the space Floating living: if your sofa and chair float in the middle of the room, your rug should fit under all four legs of each piece of furniture   [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=23&v=puIVzvQkHlU[/embed]

Easy-care rug guide

Here are four easy-care tips from T+W so that your rug maintains its shape, colour and texture for years to come – be it flat weave, pile or natural fibre:
  1. Retain shape by vacuuming to pick up particles of dust and dirt before they become embedded deep in the fibre and helps retain the rug's vertical weave??
  1. Remove stains by blotting not rubbing the area and treat spills or stains as soon as possible. First blot with a dry cloth or towel to soak up excess moisture. Then use a toothbrush with a small amount of mild liquid soap or wool wash and water to loosen stains. Finish by blotting with a clean, dry cloth.
  1. Even out wear and tear by rotating it regularly, especially if it is positioned in a sunny spot or receives a lot of foot traffic
  1. Prevent trips and slips with an underlay to keep your rug in place. It will also protect flooring from coarse natural fibres and make your rug feel even softer underfoot with that extra bit of cushioning
