A guide to statement chairs

Out of all the seating options we have scattered around the house and home offices (we have two), our studded wingback chair is by far my favourite – to sit on and look at. Located in the lounge, it makes a bold style statement that people are instantly drawn to. While the bill to upholster it in leather a couple of years ago literally made our eyes water, it’s definitely going to be one of those timeless heirloom pieces we gift to our children someday. Also known as accent or occasional chairs, they often become a major focal point, be it through a striking silhouette, colour palette or style reference. savethousands_may2016_set_a_320x50-d Statement chairs come in all shapes and sizes, be it a chaise lounge, club chair or recliner, so it’s important to choose the right one for the space. Bulky chesterfield chairs take up a bit of space, so they might not be the best choice if you live in a small apartment. And if all you want to do is curl up with a good book on a cold night, I’d probably steer away from an armless slipper chair. Ebay has put together an informative buying guide that outlines different designs and the materials they’re commonly made from. Look for shapes and fabrics that are comfortable, and enhance the overall look and feel of your home. That said, sometimes a bold deviation in colour or style is exactly what is needed to inject some personality into a space.   [caption id="attachment_4959" align="alignleft" width="690"]domayneonline-upholstered-stockholm-leather-accent-chair Stockholm Leather Accent Chair | Image courtesy of Domayne Online[/caption]   Upholstered in a waxed aniline cowhide, this Stockholm Leather Accent Chair from Domayne Online tastefully combines classic Swedish design sensibility with luxury finishes. A good option if space is at a premium.   [caption id="attachment_4962" align="alignleft" width="690"]article-statement-chair-italian-duck-feather-sven-charme-tan Sven Charme Tan Chair | Image courtesy of Article[/caption]   Full grain, tufted Italian leather, duck feather filling and a sturdy timber frame – what's not to love about this stunning Sven Charme Tan Chair from Article. Modelled on a classic mid-century design, this type of statement chair would fit right at home in the lounge, sunroom or reading room. The futuristic Mei Chair and stool from Satara features (see above hero image) textured linen cushioning and sleek oak timber legs. Curved contours and generous dimensions are an enticing combination, especially if you feel like sitting back and watching TV.   [caption id="attachment_4961" align="alignleft" width="690"]brosa-low-slung-camden-chesterfield-style Image courtesy of Brosa[/caption]   Finally, this low slung Camden Chesterfield Chair from Brosa features deep button tufting, lush fabrics and neoclassic style. Chesterfield’s usually sport a distinctive rolled back, so show it off by positioning it in the middle of the room. Satara has a wide selection of occasional chairs that range from eco-friendly rattan to a mix of European oak, leather and cowhide. You will also find affordable designs at Freedom and Brosa, while Matt Blatt does great replicas of the iconic Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman and Hans Wegner Circle Chair.   [caption id="attachment_4958" align="alignleft" width="690"]decoist-standout-eames-lounge-chair Standout Eames Lounge chair | Image courtesy of Decoist[/caption]
