A guide to statement chairs

Out of all the seating options we have scattered around the house and home offices (we have two), our studded wingback chair is by far my favourite – to sit on and look at. Located in the lounge, it makes a bold style statement that people are instantly drawn to. While the bill to upholster it in leather a couple of years ago literally made our eyes water, it’s definitely going to be one of those timeless heirloom pieces we gift to our children someday. Also known as accent or occasional chairs, they often become a major focal point, be it through a striking silhouette, colour palette or style reference. Statement chairs come in all shapes and sizes, be it a chaise lounge, club chair or recliner, so it’s important to choose the right one for the space. Bulky chesterfield chairs take up a bit of space, so they might not be the best choice if you live in a small apartment. And if all you want to do is curl up with a good book on a cold night, I’d probably steer away from an armless slipper chair. Look for shapes and fabrics that are comfortable, and enhance the overall look and feel of your home.
